Postpartum is a time of upheaval and transition. Who you were before your baby was born no longer exists. Who you are becoming is still forming. You are inching along on new ground, sussing out who you are now as a parent, learning who your newborn is, and figuring out how to not only survive but ultimately to thrive in this new phase of your life.

And that do or die attitude that our culture values so much can play havoc on your budding, new parent confidence. Especially when it comes to something like breastfeeding where sometimes circumstances beyond our control can throw us a curve ball or two.

How things ARE may be quite different than how we thought they would be, which makes this a really great time to practice giving yourself the gift of compassion and kindness. And maybe even the gift of defining your own success.
